Yoga Classes in Newbury

Flow yoga classes in Newbury and Greenham for students who want to build strength, improve technique and deepen their understanding of yoga.

I teach in-person group classes every week at two venues in the Newbury area: the Waterside Centre in central Newbury, and Luna Studio on the Greenham Business Park. These are flow (Vinyasa) classes of either 60 or 90 minutes duration with class sizes ranging from 8 to 12 people.​​ In addition I run a weekly online live class.

In all of my classes, my aim is for students to get a true understanding of the poses, to improve technique and therefore facilitate the deepening of each and every pose. This always translates into increased strength and flexibility. Once the body understands where it needs to go, it will take you there without compensating or taking shortcuts. This approach will also develop a deeper mind-body connection. My hope is that you always leave my classes having learned something new and that you keep developing confidence in your practice and yourself.

Thursday - Flow Yoga with Carmen (60 Minutes, Waterside Centre)

This is a 60 minute Flow (Vinyasa) yoga class that works on linking several poses together while focusing on breath and technique.

The class always includes a brief centering and gentle warm-up, a series of sun salutations ("true warm-up") and a flow of standing and seated poses carefully designed either to lead to a peak pose or related to a specific topic. We end the class with a deep relaxation (savasana or yoga nidra). Every class is different, though we sometimes develop specific themes over a number of weeks.

 

This class is suitable for most students, but not for those with very restricted mobility, as you will need to get up and down from the floor with relative ease. Regular attendance to this class will help you improve strength and range of motion, as well as core stability and balance. My class is a welcoming space to playfully move and connect with body and breath. Plenty of options are given throughout the class. By the end you will feel energised yet nurtured at the same time. 

Friday - Flow Yoga with Carmen (90 Minutes, Greenham Business Park)

This is a 90 minute Flow (Vinyasa) yoga class that works on linking several poses together while focusing on breath and technique and includes a period of deeper practice.

The class includes centering, gentle warm-up, a series of sun salutations and a flow of standing and seated poses carefully designed to lead to a peak pose, all this lasting around 50 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of deeper practice/playtime to work towards more complex poses or movements (options will be given) before the final cooldown and relaxation. Each class is different though we may focus on the same peak pose for a number of weeks.

 

This is a class for lovers of yoga and movement. Previous experience is helpful as you will need to be able to move through sun salutations comfortably (i.e. plank, down dog, cobra and a forward fold). Regular attendance will allow you to work towards or improve more complex poses, refine technique and keep developing mind-body awareness, as well as strength, flexibility and lightness in body and mind.

Monday - Journey into Stillness (60 Minutes, Live Online Class)

Journey into stillness is a 6 week ONLINE COURSE designed to help you move mindfully, with intention and to create a deep sense of stillness from within.

 

What you will experience:

The beauty of coordinating breath and movement 

Using the depth of the breath to open the body and quieten the mind 

Improved posture, flexibility and mobility 

A clear understanding of foundational poses (what, how and why)

Breath-body connection for calm and focus

Not sure which class is right for you?

Join us for the Monday online class if:

  • You don't live locally to Newbury

  • You prefer to practise in the comfort of your own home

  • You would still prefer to have my live guidance and support

Join us for the Thursday evening 60 mins class if:

  • You are returning to yoga after a break 

  • You have some yoga experience but would like to build confidence

  • You enjoy a focused practice that fits into a busy week

  • You want to deepen your understanding gradually

  • You would like a welcoming and supportive place to begin practising yoga

Best for: Students who want a regular practice but prefer a slightly shorter class. This class is suitable for most students, including those new to yoga, but not for people looking for a very gentle, restorative or yin style class. It is a flow class, so students need to be comfortable moving between standing, seated and floor based postures.

Join us for the Friday morning 90 mins class if:

  • You have been practising for a while and want to go deeper

  • You enjoy exploring technique and refining your understanding

  • You want more time to investigate poses, breath and movement

  • You are looking for progress rather than just copying a sequence

  • You are ready for a longer, more immersive practice

Best for: Curious or experienced practitioners who appreciate time to explore, learn and develop. You do not need to be "advanced", but you should be comfortable following a sun salutation, including plank, downward dog, cobra and forward fold.
